Why 540-13? What does it mean?

It all started around May 2015 when the idea of moving from Oak Crescent in Burlington become serious and we started looking for a new home.

Initially we looked at existing properties and at a lower price point. After a short while we had to do a trip to Brantford and happened upon a new build which piqued our interest. This in turn led to looking at new builds in other communities. We did much looking / research via the internet and had originally discounted Phelps Homes in Smithville. In early October 2015 (or was it late September?) we looked at a new community in Niagara Falls which we very quickly dismissed but as Smithville was pretty much on the route home decided to look anyway and say we did our due diligence. We thought we had found a place in Fergus but this was way above what we had seen elsewhere and affordable. As they say "the rest is history".

Having spent 10 days "de-cluttering" Oak Crescent and a "coming soon" real estate board outside it went on the market and sold within hours with our ideal buyer (asking price, want to demo and build so no hassles with home inspections, and a long closing date (lets our new one get built with minimum rental/storage costs). Unfortunately that last bit didn't quite work out - our two weeks living at daughter's and belongings in storage was closer to eleven primarily due to a strike in the construction industry. Then when we did have a closing date the movers who had our belongings in storage couldn't deliver for another ten days (being a prime time of year for moving).

Once we committed to the new house we visited on a regular basis, originally once a week and then twice as it got closer to the date, to take photographs. Until close to end date these were limited to exterior shots and we were not meant to be inside - well that lasted until near the end when we started taking some inside as well which is as well as we found some discrepancies as to what was requested and what was being delivered.

So back to the original questions - 540 is the site reference used by the builder and 13 is the plot number so all correspondence between us and the builder simply references 540-13.
